Not only are EliteXC officials considering the creation of championship
belts for its growing stable of female fighters, but they're also
planning to host a women's-only show that could take place next year.
EliteXC Live Events President Gary Shaw reaffirmed his company's
dedication to female MMA during today's media conference call with Gina
Carano (5-0) and Kaitlin Young (4-1), who fight May 31 during the debut

Americans come up winners at DREAM.3
It was a big night for the American contingent at the third card put on
by the Japanese DREAM promotion, with Eddie Alvarez, Nick Diaz and
Jason "Mayhem" Miller all scoring impressive wins Sunday before an
announced crowd of 21,789 at the Saitama Super Arena.
The idea behind DREAM was to give the Japanese audience the new version
of PRIDE, the popular promotion that collapsed due to a Yakuza scandal
that cost the company its network television contract.
The card, which aired live in the U.S. on HDNet, had a lot of the PRIDE
feel, with the same type of entrances, and the trademark 10-minute
first round and five-minute second. The ring looks similar, and most of
the shows are held in PRIDE's former home base in Saitama, a city just
outside Tokyo.

The Sunday Junkie: May 11 edition
Affliction has finally confirmed details for its debut July 19 show,
which features a main event between Fedor Emelianenko and Tim Sylvia.
However, does the MMA clothing company really stand a chance as an MMA
promoter? Do any of the UFC's rival organizations?
MMAjunkie.com readers explain why Affliction and nearly every other UFC
competitor is doomed. Whether it's a lack of money, talent or available
market share, they simply don't have the resources to survive.
Also, find out what our readers had to say about EliteXC's real
heavyweight talents (and no, it's not Kimbo Slice), why Randy Couture
owes the UFC something, why "The Ultimate Fighter" missed the mark this
season, and why Tito Ortiz leaving the UFC is such a mistake. It's all in our latest installment of "The Sunday Junkie."

Matt Serra, UFC in a New York groove
Less than three weeks ago, Matt Serra was in the highest profile fight
of his career and one of the most successful events in Ultimate
Fighting Championship history.
Serra is already back in the ring, and in a fight. But this time it's the political ring. And when it comes to long-term historical impact, he hopes this battle
will make his April 19 loss to Georges St. Pierre pale in comparison.
Fighters Serra and Matt Hamill, along with UFC vice-president of
regulatory affairs Marc Ratner and others associated with the
promotion, spent several days earlier this week in Albany, N.Y.,
working on gathering political support to legalize mixed martial arts
in New York State and put it under the regulatory authority of the
state athletic commission.

Wanderlei Silva is one of MMA's most recognizable stars, but he's also one of the sport's biggest fans.
Silva next meets Keith Jardine at UFC 84 on May 24. However, when Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports caught up with the Brazilian fighter, Silva was just as interested in discussing another fight -- a dream bout between Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre.
Like any other fan, Silva knows it would be an entertaining bout. And if there's anyone who knows something about entertaining fights, according to UFC president Dana White, it's Silva.

Matt Hughes wants to prove his time hasn't passed
One of the classic symptoms of an aged, or aging, fighter is seeing openings and being unable to take advantage of them.
It's no different than a running back who once could burst through a
hole for a 15-yard gain when he ran a 4.4 40, but who now runs a 4.65
and can't hit it quick enough to get more than three yards before the
pile collapses upon him.
And what Matt Hughes was describing as a problem in his loss to Georges
St. Pierre in December sounded suspiciously like a man losing the
battle with time. But the two-time former UFC welterweight champion, who saved the UFC
yet again when he agreed on short notice to fight Thiago Alves in the
main event of UFC 85 in London on June 7, insists he's far from through.
