Between March 9th and 13th, 2011, Canadian Music Fest presented 800 artists in 55 downtown Toronto venues. An enthused audience had plenty of choices to see music acts from all around the world. One could see bigger acts, such as Melissa Etheridge, Papa Roach, Good Charlotte, Finger Eleven or Protest the Hero, or go into any of the venues and discover new bands. As every year, it was impossible to see everyone, but here are some rocking bands from Canada and abroad.

A real treat was to see http://www.myspace.com/neverendingwhitelights - Neverending White Lights who hasn’t played in Toronto for a while. The band presented new material from the upcoming album Act III – Love Will Ruin. It was good to hear that Daniel Victor seems to have fully recovered from his raptured vocal cord he sustained last year. The set started with THE LONELY WAR and introduced other new songs such as THE WALTZ or ROLE IN YOUR HEAD. A total of six songs on the new album will be sung by Evan Konrad from Vancouver’s band Bed of Stars. Based on the new songs Neverending White Lights performed during their set, it promises to be another excellent album. Even though the stage at the Gladstone Hotel was a bit small to hold a seven piece band, Neverending White Lights evidently enjoyed playing and their set was very well received by the audience. Those of you, who have been to a Neverending White Lights show, know that Daniel Victor is known for inviting surprise guests onto the stage. That evening, it was Evan Konrad who sang multiple songs, and JDiggz, who performed their song THIS TIME. The set not only presented new songs, but also classic songs like THE GRACE and ALWAYS. Neverending White Lights – Act III – Love Will Ruin is definitely an album to look forward to.

All the way from Israel came http://www.myspace.com/findlovenow - Asaf Avidan & The Mojos . A truly unusual voice, which has been compared to Janice Joplin and Robert Plant, and the bands musical diversity are the ingredients for a remarkable and memorable live experience. Singer Asaf Avidan started off the set with only him on the acoustic guitar. For the second song he invited cellist Hadas Kleinman onto the stage to join him for a hauntingly beautiful song. Then the rest of this five piece band came on stage and rocked the stage with blues influenced songs. Their set was very well received in the packed club.

From Los Angeles came the http://www.myspace.com/rivalsons - Rival Sons who captivated a full house with their classic rock songs. Singer Jay Buchanan’s remarkable voice keeps their songs interesting and the instrumentation is tight and make for an excellent package. With a lot of fun and enthusiasm the band played songs from their existing and upcoming albums. Rival Sons are not new to Toronto and have played here before. For classic rock lovers who enjoy a fresh take on it, it is a must to check out this band!

http://www.zealotsdesire.com/ - Zealots Desire from London, Ontario, impressed with an energetic performance of their progressive grunge. Singer Joshua Cuningham’s powerful voice is well supported by the full sound of this band. The song ELEPHANT STOMP and NAMELESS are great songs to see and hear live as the explosive energy of the songs is emphasized by the band’s powerful performance. For fans of progressive rock and grunge, Zealots Desire is a band to check out.

With a deep voice and an engaging show, Montreal based band http://www.myspace.com/jonaslive - Jonas & the Massive Attraction presented their melodic rock tunes during Canadian Music Week. The band attracted quite a large crowd of fans who happily danced to the catchy music and sang along to every single song the band put on. Outstanding was the title track of the band’s recent album BIG SLICE. Juno-nominated singer Jonas obviously feels at home on stage and enjoys interacting with his audience. The band played an impeccable set that was very well received by the excited audience.
