Bio
We Are Masked is a band aiming to bring progressive music to wider audiences. Hailing from Greensboro, NC, the group formerly known as Perestroyka, formed in 2005 and has been polishing their act relentlessly ever since. With their debut full-length album, Paradigm, the group aims to conquer the local and regional music scene by captivating audiences with their tight blend of progressive hard rock and non-stop live performances.
The three members of We Are Masked, Cameron Fitzpatrick (vocals, bass); James Abbott (guitar), and Vincent Russell (drums) met as adolescents and quickly discovered they shared the same interest and passion for music. Though pulling inspiration from many different musical styles and artists, the group cites bands such as Fair to Midland, TREOS, Coheed and Cambria, A Perfect Circle, Three, and Rush as their main influences.
Coming from an area impregnated with hardcore and pop punk bands, We Are Masked is not afraid to create a distinctive sound that refuses to be pigeonholed into the musical genres of their local counterparts.
"It has been hard to find our niche," avows Abbott, "But we feel that we have finally found ourselves with the new album, hence the name Paradigm."
Comprised of eleven tracks, the band's debut full-length album Paradigm is a cohesive collection of songs intricately written to create a sound that defies classification but is instantly recognizable, transcending conformity yet without pretension. Melodic vocals flow effortlessly over a sonic palate richly woven with distorted guitars, thundering bass, and pulsing drums, driven through rhythmic complexity, potent dynamics, and heavy riffs. Contemporary while at the same time familiar, Paradigm is an album fed by the fires of musical depth and sincerity.
"We write music that we enjoy playing," asserts Russell, "and that is of the utmost importance to us." "We love these songs and believe in them to the fullest. To be able to share them with others is a most gratifying experience."
We Are Masked stress their attention to writing songs that not only satisfy their art rock hunger, but also offer an accessible entry for the more mainstream rock listener.
"At the end of the day, a great song is our ultimate goal," adds Fitzpatrick. "We let the song dictate its own direction and try to write what the song demands, whether it's hard to play or not. We are not a band obsessed with technical difficulty; we care about what sounds good."
Armed with a well defined sound and professional approach to the industry We Are Masked is ready for whatever the future may hold.
