Interview with SYNASTRY

Interview with Synastry – by George Rock in Woodstock

Have you ever heard the phrase ‘blow you away'? Well, in this case, this band will blow you away; in fact, they will even blow your whole town to shreds: Synastry is the name, the freshest metal sound everyone's been waiting to headbang to. This band brings a new definition to metal, some say, they should change the spelling of the word metal and replace it with Synastry!

This four piece band from Montreal, Quebec, comprises of Jimmy (vocals), Pavel (guitars), Garen (bass), and Kegham (drums). With the release of their debut album "Blind Eyes Bleed", there is no doubt that Synastry will attract the attention of labels. The music community will be shaken with tracks like PALLETS OF MY WORLD, IN YOUR EYES (featuring Alissa White-Gluz, from Century Media's "The Agonist"), and PRECIOUS TIME BOMB. It has also come to the attention that Johan Liiva, former front man of the legendary metal band Arch Enemy, has put some input into the song VISIONS OF ANGER.

Blind Eyes Bleed will surely bring the music community to its knees, with a promising sound and amazing earth shattering vocals. It's only a matter of time before Synastry graces the world stage!

George: How long have you been together?

Jimmy: Synastry has been together since August 2005, but me, Kegham and Garen have been in bands together since 2002.

George: What influenced you to take up singing?

Jimmy: I was always intrigued by live performance and entertaining people from a young age. What pushed me into singing the most, I think, is that my father was a bit of a singer in his younger days, but due to operations performed to survive laryngeal cancer, his singing voice was shot to hell. In a way, singing for me is a way to express myself, get people's attention and carry the torch from father to son.

George: Who are your influences?

Jimmy: My influences are Leonidas Anastasopoulos, Johan Liiva, Anders Friden, Devin Townsend and Kevin Jardine.

George: Your album Blind Eyes Bleed, features a couple duets or guest singers in some songs, one of them being the former singer from Arch Enemy, [Johan Liiva] could you explain how you talked him into recording?

Jimmy: Johan and I share a lot of similar features, vocally and personally. I believe that's the reason why, when I approached him initially, he had a genuine interest in Synastry and in actually having (many) conversations with someone who has been greatly influenced by him. Johan Liiva appears on the track VISIONS OF ANGER. Not to overlook Alissa White-Gluz, from The Agonist, who sings on IN YOUR EYES. Her beautiful clean voice graces the track and we even get into trading screams at one point. Working with both Alissa and Johan has been a surreal and awesome experience. Working with a friend and with an idol so intimately is not something most bands get to do for their debut album, and I know how lucky I am.

George: What can fans expect from this album, and when is the release date?

Jimmy: Fans can expect the hookiest Industrial Death Metal to come out of Montreal in a while. The release date is yet to be announced, as we are still looking for a label. - Nope, we haven't found one since the interview began. (laughs)

George: What can we expect from Synastry, during and after this album's release?

Jimmy: When we find a suitable label and/or representation, you can expect a lot of the same from Synastry, just a lot more of it: more tour dates, more press. Hopefully, we can find the right representation to get us as much touring, press, and new and different merch as possible. We want to keep the people who support us happy, and we want to meet new people and play as many shows in as many different cities as possible.

George: What do you think indieSolo can do for your band?

Jimmy: I think that indiesolo can help us in the ways of promoting our band and our shows.

George: How rough was it as a new band, getting gigs in a metal city such as Montreal?

Jimmy: Montreal's not a tough city to get gigs in. Montreal's a tough city to get gigs where a decent amount of people show up. We have a huge scene in our hometown, which is great for some things, but bad for others, but I'd say we have good luck getting on some decent shows, like MOSHCORE, which was a metal festival that featured bands like The Agnoist, 3 Mile Scream, Mythosis and Derelict.

George: Jimmy! If there was one band you would like to do guest vocals on for one song who would they be?

Jimmy: Just one? (laughs) Well I'm very tempted to say something like In Flames, who are my favourite band, or something that people really wouldn't expect growling to be on, like NIGHTWISH!! (laughs)

George: What do you want to achieve with your music?

Jimmy: We want to achieve many things with our music. A few of those things would be to make a name and good reputation for Synastry and ourselves, and to create music that people can hopefully relate to, enjoy and fall in love with. And to be able to make enough money to be able to do it full time. That's one of the most important things, so that we don't have to compromise our creativity and performance time for a reason that has nothing to do with Synastry.
