Bio
STAREWELL is a hard rock, rock n' roll, pop-rock or metal band, depending on your age/gender and how you relate to what they do' as musicians. To one person they are reminiscent of the Stone Temple Pilots, or Audioslave. To another, STAREWELL "bends the strings like April Wine", and draws comparisons to Guns' n' Roses, The Foo Fighters, Collective Soul and Tesla. It makes sense then that they fit as comfortably on stage with Lynyrd Skynyrd or Nazareth, as they have with The Trews or Hedley. And STAREWELL is no stranger to touring and performing. They have performed at various venues, Universities/Colleges, showcases and festivals all over western Canada, out east in Toronto and into the United States.
Canadian rock band STAREWELL has been turning heads since 2006 with the release of their album "Those Who Matter" which boasted their single Blurrier, which ended at it's best week at 18, and their single Those Who Matter which charted at 25 on Canada's rock charts. After an extensive tour in western Canada they went back to the studio to record a new album entitled "Broke & Out of Money" that was released in May 2008. In just a month, their new single Broke & Out of Money has made it to 20 on Canada's Mediabase rock charts. STAREWELL's discography also includes: 2005 - Budweiser True Music Compilation; 2004 - fully extended singles "Standing in the Grey" (which was a National Songwriting Finalist) and "Like You Mean It"; 2002 – Music Centre Canada Compilation - "Lead Me"; and, a 2001 Starewell EP.
And those that understand rock, respect the fact that STAREWELL has survived for nearly 8 years as an independent artist and consequently has had to butt heads as much as they've done the happy dance. "Our new single, the socially conscious "Broke & Out of Money", reveals a more aggressive, and intelligent side to our music," says Brett Simms, lead singer/guitar. "Tracks like "28" reflect the band's maturity and willingness to experiment (with a little Iron Maiden, depending on who you ask)," explains Simms. "And listeners also get a glimpse into STAREWELL's diary with songs like Down On Me' and Broke & Out of Money'. These are first hand accounts of life on the road that will certainly explain what it is like off stage." Even the fear and greed behind their booming hometown, Calgary, Alberta, is addressed in the songs "High Society" and "Anymore". Through and through, "Broke & Out of Money" oozes ferocity and the character that can only be described as "the way things are".
To STAREWELL "the way things are" is eleven tracks on a rock album. To you it may be something else. Regardless, do yourself a favour and check it out.
