Interview with Clara Lofaro

Interview with Clara Lofaro – by George Rock in Woodstock

When you think of popular female singers, you think Shakira, Christina Aguilera, but scratch those thoughts, it's time for a new superstar to take the stage: her name is Clara Lofaro! I have personally seen her live and her performance is to die for! A hot singer and a tight band, and to think about it, she also writes music that means something. She has taken the stage with a lot of amazing singers and bands, not to mention her previous appearance with Stevie Nicks. She has taken her fans by storm, with her star status rising high, it's inevitable. Take time to listen to her, because she will shock you, musically and physically!

George:When did you know you were destined to become a singer?

Clara: I used to sing at church as a girl and no matter what my troubles were outside of there when I walked into practice I was standing on tables and chairs singing about 10 minutes into it. Music has always taken me to a higher place and when I began performing, I found that I was able to transmit that to the people who were listening and really move them.

George: How long did it take you to get where you are today?

Clara: It took me up until today to get to where I am today. (laughs)

George: What drives you?

Clara: The idea that breaking as an artist would not only fulfill my dreams but those who have believed in me and stood by me along the way. I do it for all of them knowing that it would give them faith in their own hopes and that anything is possible if you're willing to work hard for it. What also drives me is proving the people wrong who have put me down or told me it wasn't possible. It's also the ability to take care of the people I love and make a difference with something I love doing. Sometimes people think that working hard means doing something that makes you unhappy. I disagree.

George: What are your inspirations?

Clara: Everything inspires me and is fuel for my writing and creativity in general.

George: You've had the chance to share the stage with Stevie Nicks can you explain how that was?

Clara: It was a stepping stone like any other. I try to give my all in every show whether it's to 50 people or thousands. If you reach one person, it's worth it. I learn a lot about performing every time I see a legend do their thing. It was an honour to share the stage with Stevie and Chris because I've respected them as entertainers and songwriters since I was a kid.

George: What's the next Step for Clara Lofaro?

Clara: Recording my follow up album to Black + Blue Pearl. I'm getting in the studio this week to record the single, "Waterfall", totally psyched!

George: Are you looking at going on a massive tour sometime soon?

Clara: Well, like I said in the last answer, my next big step is recording the best album I've got in me. I want it to be so great that it pivots a world tour, yes (laughs).

George: What's your favorite pre-gig meal?

Clara: (laughs) That's funny, because what you should really be asking me is what's my favourite post-gig meal, because I really don't eat much before I perform. It's a combination of nerves and focus. I don't want me to digesting a big meal before I sing. I usually eat a bar or something to hold me over. After I am always starving! My favourite is my mom's pizza but I only get that when I am playing in my hometown, Toronto.

George: Explain what kind of feel the crowd gives you, when you are on stage?

Clara: Though I try to give everything I've got every time, a shows' greatness also really depends on your audience's energy. So does this answer. I feel different things from my audience every time. I usually stand to the side of the stage and look out at them, try to feel them out before I hit the stage, so I can relate to them when I start singing.

George: Is there a goal you want to accomplish?

Clara: A gazillion.
