Bio
"Basia Lyjak has broken the mold, folks. This incredibly talented female rock practitioner from Toronto has emerged with a laughingly brilliant and innovatively excellent EP that rips at the very foundations of once sleepy North American rock and wakes the whole world up with the kinda force that could repair the melting ice sheets at either ends of the north or south poles!" - Elley Wilson, IOM Magazine
Basia Lyjak is a straight up rock chick with catchy, well crafted tunes and simultaneously powerful, raw and femme-charged vocals that bring you back to a day when singing came from your heart and your gut, rather than a pitch corrector in a studio.
"There are only a few women that have rocked our world throughout the ages... Janis Joplin, Etta James, Heart, and The Pretenders, but guess what? There's a new chick that rocks my socks off, and her name is Basia Lyjak - and she kicked my ass! She's got the whole package. I think she will be a force in rock n' roll, and once you hear her, you wont forget her... I haven't!" - Mark Hudson (Songwriter/Producer; Livin' on the Edge, Aerosmith)
Long involved in the industry, Basia has finally found her niche as a songwriter and performer. Her second EP, "Writings on the Wall" has been knocking down doors all year, and few who hear its catchy, rock-driven and empowering tracks can honestly deny their booming potential.
"Her current EP, 'Writings on the Wall,' bears witness to an artist mature beyond her years. The vocal prowess Lyjak displays on that EP and the strength of the original material she's penned point to a long run for her." – Doug Gallant, Canadian Musician Magazine
The wave of success from "Writings on the Wall" carried Basia into Brian Moncarz's Whirlwind Sound Studios to record a song co-written by the prodigious Kyle Riabko. The resulting track, "Don't Talk," is now available at her website, and showcases the talents of the all-star band she is now the frontwoman of, featuring guitarist Ron Bechard (Sin Dealer, Edwin), bassist Dave Carreiro (Nigel's 11, Slash Puppet) and drummer Glenn Nash (Q107 house drummer, Ozonebaby).
"Basia Lyjak has arrived at a time when we all thought stage and studio 'magic,' 'presence,' and 'charisma' had long since fallen off the pages! Rewriting the A&R chapters is easy but I really do feel sorry for the label execs that ran out of ink!" - Colin Lynch, Jimmy Stilettos magazine
2007 and 2008 so far have been phenomal years: Basia has showcased at NXNE twice, played shows with Lee Aaron, April Wine, The Mudmen and Edwin at venues like The Phoenix, Lee's Palace, Hard Rock Café and ElMocambo, to name a few. Her EP has won five 2008 International Online Music Awards and "Don't Talk" was nominated for "Best Song at the 2008 Toronto Independent Music Awards. She's been profiled on OMNI1's Na Luzie TV show, interviewed by Tara Slone for SUN TV's Canoe Live! and featured on TwentySomethingTV, in addition to prominent articles in Metro News, Toronto Sun, Canadian Musician Magazine and more. For 2008 and 2009, she's ready to rock a tour, any stage, anywhere, and record a full-length album -- bring it all on, 'cause Basia Lyjak is just living the dream!
"Come on, Canada! Listen to Basia Lyjak - you don't know what you're missing!" - Jon Long, Long & McQuade Musical Instruments |
