Interview with Acid Eyeliner

Acid Eyeliner - Interview by Beckylou in Sydney

Acid Eyeliner is a Pop Punk trio increasingly involved in the indie music scene in Sydney, playing festivals around Australia and marking their territory in the music world in their own way. Their powerful melodies and lyrical content touch fans on a highly involving relatable note and ensure developing relationships that will inevitably last forever.

The three piece band comprises of Lukey Lukess (vox/guitar), Murray Sheridan (Drums/Vox) and Pete Nu (Bass/Vox). Past accomplishments include radio airplay on metropolitan station Nova 969 FM and television appearances on popular RAGE and MTV's The Lair. Where can we expect future efforts to take these boys? I can see this band reaching exceptional heights and taking their music to a global level.

Acid Eyeliner are the fifth indieMortal7 and in honour of this excitable achievement, I managed to grab hold of Lukess, in order to get his perspective on life as a musician in Sydney, what makes his creative brain tick and the dreams he has for their music. After much pacing back and forth and waiting with bated breath, here is a slight insight into the mind of one of Sydney's most accomplished musicians.

Beckylou: What does indieSolo mean to you?

Lukess: indieSolo is a great opportunity to get our music heard and to gain more world wide exposure. The website and organization behind indieSolo is very professional and we want to be a part of this great concept.

Beckylou: Describe Your Style in Five Words

Lukess: Aluminium pizza bag getting micro-waved.

Beckylou: What influenced you to make music?

Lukess: Life. I believe music was given as a gift to people and being able to express every day things through song is not just a great outlet for yourself but for others too.

Beckylou: What is it like to be an unsigned band in the Sydney rat-race?

Lukess: I don't think we compare ourselves to other unsigned bands in Sydney. We're working as hard, if not harder than any signed band in the country right now, and we continue to work full time at making our music matter. There is a load of competition and behind the scenes bitch fights happening in the music scene, but we try stay clear of that and just play the music we love.

Beckylou: Name a memorable gig experience

Lukess: 2007 Scout Festival [in Victoria] was a great gig. We drove nine hours and joked about how we'd be stuck on a small stage playing to ten kids. As we joked, we turned onto the small road leading towards the camp site and could see about 2 km in the distance the stage. All four semi trailer loads and four stories of it. We ended up playing to over 5,000 kids and had the best time meeting them and signing autographs.

Beckylou: What is your ultimate goal for your music?

Lukess: We'd love to have our songs known world wide. The ultimate goal is to do this for the rest of our lives full time. To be able to support our lives and families is very important.

Beckylou: What shoes are you wearing right now?

Lukess: Converse All Stars, black with red lining.

Beckylou: Which musician/s would you like to have a beer with?

Lukess: Love to hang out with Jimmy Eat World and get drunk with Green Day.

Beckylou: Monday Madness - How do you cure your weekend hangovers?

Lukess: Sleep. Sleep. Sleep. Wake up on Tuesday!

Beckylou: Which song would you love to cover?

Lukess: "Hold me Now" by the Thomson Twins. We have this one in the pipe now.

Beckylou: What was your worst day job?

Lukess: I washed dishes when I was 15. That sucked badly.

Beckylou: What influences your song content?

Lukess: Life, memories, and people we meet and many little things that just stand out in our lives, also some light hearted fun.

Beckylou: Last Words?

Lukess: Give our songs a listen, hopefully enjoy them and live the journey with us. Grow old with the boys from AE.

Keep your eyes open and your ears peeled for more of Acid Eyeliner soon.
