Interview with A Silent Fiction

Interview with A Silent Fiction – by Beckylou in Sydney

A silent fiction is a six-piece melodic srceamo / post hardcore band from Central Coast, NWS, Australia. The band is comprised of Chris – Nug - Nguyen (lead guitar), Ben - Benny C - Clutter (drums), Mat – Hemo - Heming (lead vocals), Joe Sullivan (vocals, samples, turntables), Andrew Barnes (rhythm guitar), and Andrew Oxm (bass).

Beckylou: Describe Your Sound in Five Words

A Silent Fiction: Melodic, Fast, Screamo, DJ, Fun

Beckylou: What influenced you to make music?

A Silent Fiction: Other musicians. We all grew up listening to punk bands and all fell in love with the "underground" music scene

Beckylou: What influences your song content?

A Silent Fiction: In terms of lyrics, we are influenced by experiences we have had while being in this band, people we have met and situations we have found ourselves in.

Beckylou: What is your ultimate goal for your music?

A Silent Fiction: The ultimate goal, would have to be to be able to play music as a job and tour non stop.

Beckylou: What is it like to be an unsigned band in Australia? What are the perks and the downs?

A Silent Fiction: We are actually semi-signed, more of a distribution deal rather than a record deal. But it is good to be able to make our own decisions and control the direction the band goes in. I guess the downfall is we are all poor. (laughs)

Beckylou: What does indieSolo mean to you?

A Silent Fiction: indieSolo is a great chance to expose our music to a wider audience. Especially in the sense that fans from across the world will be able to hear us and hopefully they will like what they hear.

Beckylou: Name a memorable gig experience.

A Silent Fiction: When our singer, Hemo, fell of stage mid performance and everyone in the crowd jumped on top of him

Beckylou: Ever caught something thrown at a gig?

A Silent Fiction: (laughs) Yeah, undies, too bad they were guys undies

Beckylou: Which musician/s would you like to have a beer with?

A Silent Fiction: Dallas Green from Alexisonfire and City and Colour.

Beckylou: Monday Morning Madness - How do you cure your weekend hangovers?

A Silent Fiction: Migrastick, water and sleeping all day.

Beckylou: Which song would you love to cover?

A Silent Fiction: Lipstick by Guttermouth.

Beckylou: What was your worst day job?

A Silent Fiction: We all have pretty bad day jobs. Making kebabs all day would have to be the worst.

Beckylou: Which city would be your ultimate gig destination?

A Silent Fiction: Hawaii or something tropical would be rad.

Beckylou: First record/CD/tape ever bought?

A Silent Fiction: Always – Bon Jovi

Beckylou: Damn the man! Rant on the topic of your choice.

A Silent Fiction: People who like music need to be more open minded and try to like a broader range of music, there are a lot of people out there who "bag out" bands and musicians because it's not there preferred style of music. Anyone out there having a go should be encouraged rather then put down.
