Bio
So why 26? It's a birthdate, an age, a quarter-life crisis, a new beginning, another birth date, how many letters there are in the English language, an obsession, a band name and a favourite number! What more do you want... I could go on?
The 26 story so far A birth, a death, a marriage and now an album... what a year for 26'! But more about that later.
After two practice rooms completely flooding floodboy' should have known the name was cursed from the beginning. The demise of floodboy' came in 2002, so songwriter and musician Nick O'Donnell took on the challenges of creating his next project and writing a debut album. Nick wrote, recorded, produced and mixed eight honest and personal songs while living in Brisbane, a short stint in London, Melbourne and back to Brisbane over the course of a couple of years.
Nick finally returned home where he met Drew Fellows while both working as graphic designers in a Brisbane advertising agency. They discovered their mutual love for British bands and the musical partnership began. Nick and Drew set about finishing the final two songs for the album. They recruited bass player Ross Duckworth and ex-floodboy drummer Iain Wilson along the way.
26's first album, The King Must Die' was released in Australia through Floodboy Records and MGM Distribution and globally through CD Baby and Apple iTunes in 2005. The album has received airplay nationally on Triple J and has been on high rotation on Sydney's FBi 94.5 FM. The King Must Die' was made feature album on FBi's Album Show. 26' are also gaining an internet based following with their Podcast, mp3 downloads and various radio shows.
2006 saw 26' tour Australia for the release of their single Friendly Fire' from their forthcoming second album Births, Deaths & Marriages'. Friendly Fire' went on to win the 2006 QSong Award' for Best Rock Song' and was also runner-up in The Courier Mail Peoples Choice Awards'. The single has also received airplay on Triple J nationally & FBi 94.5fm Sydney.
26 have spent the majority of 2007 playing shows and recording their second album Births, Deaths & Marriages' which is due for release in April/May 2008. The album has seen the recording of an orchestral harp, pipe organ, string section, brass section and last but not least, a 100 piece choir. And in the course of a year the members have personally experienced it all... births, deaths and marriages.
We would love 26 to be everyone's favourite number!
